This Privacy Policy explains how Clippin ("we", "us") handles personal information in connection with the Clippin website and software ("Clippin").
The short version
Clippin is a desktop application that runs on your own computer. Your videos, clips, captions, sound effects, API keys, and settings stay on your device — we do not collect, upload, or store them. The only personal information we handle is what's needed to sell you a license and deliver your key.
Information we collect
- Purchase information — when you buy Clippin, your payment is processed by Stripe. We receive your email address and limited order details (not your full card number).
- License activation — to activate your license, the app sends your license key and a machine identifier (derived from your computer) to our license server so one key can be tied to the allowed number of machines. We do not receive your name, files, or browsing data.
- Email delivery — we use an email provider (Resend) to send your license key to your email address.
- Support — if you email us, we keep that correspondence to help you.
- Website — our site is a static page. It loads fonts from Google Fonts.
- Usage analytics (opt-in, off by default) — in Settings, you can turn on anonymous feature-usage analytics. If enabled, the app periodically sends counts of which features you use (e.g. dual video, split mode, AI highlights, clips rendered) and your app version, tied to a random id generated on your device. This id is not your license key, email, or machine identifier, and cannot be linked to your account. No videos, clips, captions, filenames, or personal information are ever included.
How we use it
- To process your purchase and deliver your license key.
- To activate and validate your license and enforce license limits.
- To provide support and respond to your requests.
- To comply with legal obligations and prevent abuse or fraud.
- If you opt in to usage analytics, to understand which features are actually used so we can improve the app.
Who we share it with
We share limited information only with service providers that help us operate:
- Stripe — payment processing.
- Resend — sending your license-key email.
- Our hosting provider — running the website and license server.
- Your chosen AI provider — if you turn on an AI feature (captions, highlights, framing, viral scoring), the relevant transcript text or video frames are sent to whichever provider you've configured — Anthropic, OpenAI, or Google, using your own API key — to generate the result. Choosing a local model (Ollama) keeps this on your device with no third party involved. We do not see or store this data ourselves; it goes directly from your device to your chosen provider under their own terms.
We do not sell your personal information.
Data retention
We keep purchase and license records for as long as needed to support your license, meet legal and accounting obligations, and resolve disputes.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under GDPR or CCPA), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, or to object to certain processing. To make a request, contact us at support@clippin.app.
Children
Clippin is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
Changes
We may update this Policy from time to time. The "last updated" date above reflects the latest version.
